Adaptive technologies are very helpful and sometime necessary in a classroom if there are diverse learners in the classroom. They're another way to let kids learn at their own pace without holding kids back or trying to push them to progress faster in subjects that are harder for them. I remember when I was little we would have designated silent reading time, but a select few students had book with CDs containing the audiobook version so they could listen to someone read it while they followed along. Now there are apps that go even further as to highlight the words as the device reads you the story. The incorporation of adaptive technologies in classrooms can drastically change the approach of teaching, so that is one challenge that couldn't be completely understood until you know what technologies and kind of students you're working with.

In my classroom I would use PowerPoint to introduce ideas and reinforce ideas, however as an elementary teacher I don't foresee PowerPoint as being the best approach for my students to create or understand. For example in an elementary math class I can present math problems, discuss how to solve addition and subtraction, but for the kids to fully understand they would most likely need a hands on visual like blocks to understand why 5+3=8. I suppose using PowerPoint animations would be effective as well, just not to the extent of hands on activities. I also think it would be hard for elementary students to use PowerPoint to create since it's a more mature program that isn't geared towards an incredibly young audience. I do, however, find it a great way to reinforce concepts, present real life applications, analyze, and evaluate. Mainly because all those don't necessarily involve building or hands-on things.

The website I found is a great source that introduces you to different educational technology being used, and has articles on how it has or hasn't been effective in certain schools. The site also has a Twitter that can be helpful as well as adding your email to the subscription and being notified with new articles and technologies.
